POWER Questions: Daily questions that can change your life
Answering these 6 questions doesn’t just “kind of” work or “maybe work” for some people. It works.
~ Professor Goldsmith
Professor Marshall Goldsmith, voted the number 1 thought leader in the world and coach and mentor to the world’s leading CEOs, demonstrates that asking “Active Questions” on a daily basis leads to a 91% success rate in reaching your goals.
The statistics are based on research by Duke University.
91% of people improved within just 10 days.
In conjunction with Doctor Kelly Goldsmith, they show with impressive results that answering just these 6 questions on a daily basis significantly affects your levels of improvement in areas such as personal engagement, happiness, meaning in life, achievement, joy and passion. In fact, you can add or invent any state or feeling and it could be yours within a few weeks.
These are the 6 daily questions that Professor Goldsmith recommends to start with:
- Did I do my best to be happy?
- Did I do my best to find meaning?
- Did I do my best to be fully engaged?
- Did I do my best to build positive relationships?
- Did I do my best to set clear goals?
- Did I do my best to make progress toward goal achievement?
After just two weeks where participants asked themselves these questions every day, results showed that:
- 34% of people said they improved in all of the six areas
- 67% said they improved in four out of the six areas
- 91% said they got better in at least one of the areas
- and nobody said they got worse.
The questions are a way to nudge you into a certain way of thinking, acting, speaking, responding and being. A way of gently retraining your own mind.
You can add your own questions and you can change them.
It’s interesting that normally we don’t stop to think and ask ourselves questions like these and not many people take the time to decide what they want to change about themselves.
Answering the questions isn’t easy either. Our willpower is very limited and can be quickly depleted. Life gets in the way and trying to remember to score your daily 6 questions can be difficult for some people. That’s why not many people do it and that’s why you may need an app to help make sure you commit and stick with it.
How to create your own free POWER Questions app
Click the link below for instructions on how to set up a free Google Form (it’s like a survey) where you can add your questions and answer them daily. Google forms offer storage of your scores and also easy ways to present the data to you in useful graphs.
Put it on your phone for quick access and set a couple of alarms throughout the day to remind you to answer them. Remember also to be wary of becoming used to the sound of the alarms after a few weeks. Change the alarm sound frequently and the time of day you answer your questions as well.
Professor Goldsmith answers these daily questions and has done so for the past 30 years of his life. For Professor Goldsmith, they are so important to him that he has a lady phone him every day to ask him his questions to make sure he sticks with it.
